"Mr President, I hear it being said in this Chamber that no one is against this. Well I suppose I was elected to give an alternative view and I can certainly say that we are against this because we believe that Britain can spend its money more efficiently in support of our regions than by sending the money to Brussels to be spent for us. The opinion of the Committee on Regional Development is in full support of a Cohesion Fund that is approximately 33% of the overall budget. This has not achieved its key objectives. It has drained financial resources from Member States and is not helping Member States to recover from the economic crisis.
We hear that EUR 20 billion of commitment appropriations could fall by the wayside. Well what does ‘fall by the wayside’ mean? It means money going back to the European people, back to the countries, back to the taxpayers. So not everyone believes that the answer to every single question has to be ‘more Europe’."@en1
