"I am pleased to support the application for the mobilisation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund made by Lufthansa Technik Ireland LTD. The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund was set up to provide additional assistance to workers who have lost their jobs as a result of major structural changes in world trade patterns. Lufthansa Technik was a major employer in Rathcoole, Co. Dublin, and the 250 redundancies which have resulted from its closure have had a significant adverse impact on the local economy. I very much welcome this EUR 2.5m investment by the EU, which will be used to help start new businesses, provide career planning assistance, training opportunities and further education programmes for the former workers, as well as up to 200 young people in the area who are not in employment or education. This is a good example of the practical support the European Union can offer those hardest hit by the economic crisis, in particular young people, and help revive the local economy."@en1
