"Mr President, firstly on behalf of the ECR I would like to extend my condolences and prayers to the families and the victims of the 18 March Bardo museum shooting in Tunis. Twenty-three people died in this brutal assault, where gunmen were randomly firing with automatic weapons at innocent visitors and tourists.
Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack, and whether or not it is true that it was actually carried out by ISIS – we do not know – the attack shows the threat posed by Jihadist terrorists to the democracies of the world.
Tunisia is a Muslim-majority country, and the lone success story of the Arab Spring. These terrorists do not seem to care who they kill: Muslims, Christians or Jews. They only care about one thing, and that is the destruction of those they view as an enemy of their utopic caliphate. These men are evil. They are a threat to everything this parliament and the EU stands for. It is our duty in this House and in the European Union to do everything we can in our power, both economically and in security terms, to help the fledgling democracy of Tunisia."@en1
