"The UK Delegation fully supports this resolution on the situation of sea bass. We are deeply concerned about depleting stock levels and we welcome emergency measures which have been applied to the North Sea, English Channel, Celtic Sea and Irish Sea. The UK Delegation has voted against those amendments and paragraphs which refer to the need for EU measures for recreational fisheries; we believe that we need more scientific data on how recreational fisheries contribute to sea bass mortality and careful consideration of whether EU measures on anglers are necessary. In the UK, sea bass anglers have shown a willingness to take sustainable measures and are responsible fishers tending to fish only for mature sea bass. The UK Delegation believes that a bag limit on recreational fisheries at this current time would be disproportionate and be to the detriment of the conservation work of the UK’s anglers, the jobs it offers and the enjoyment it brings as a favoured pastime."@en1
