"Madam President, Libya used to be one of the Arab world’s wealthiest countries. Nearly four years after the fall of the Gadaffi regime, the nation lies in ruins. A power struggle has torn the country apart, as rival groups viciously fight to gain control of Libya’s vast resources. The energy industry, which was supposed to be the cornerstone of Libya’s recovery and a success story of the Arab Spring, is on the brink of collapse. Oil revenue levels are critically low and could bankrupt the government. There are reports that up to 1 million migrants are ready to head towards Europe. This could cause a humanitarian disaster of unprecedented proportions. UN-brokered discussions surrounding a unity government is good news. Nevertheless, a lasting outcome will require concessions, patience and, most significantly, Libyan solutions to Libyan problems."@en1
