"I wanted to signal my support for this resolution, which, I believe, makes a number of important recommendations in tackling the spread of child sexual abuse material. This is particularly relevant at a time when technological advancement has led to an increase in the spread of these images, particularly through the deep web and darknets. It is clear that law enforcement agencies, including Europol, must be able to keep up with this advancement and to ensure that they have the technical expertise available to find and remove this material as well as to locate and to prosecute offenders.
In particular, and as I have mentioned previously in my work in this area, it is important to emphasise that this crime can only be tackled through global cooperation, and references to the Global Alliance are particularly relevant. While Europe has the resources and expertise to enable it to export its practices around the world, it is also important that Member States be seen to be practising what they preach. Therefore, I fully support calls for Member States which have not yet done so to transpose the Directive on combating the sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children and child pornography."@en1
