"It is absolutely essential that we work together, and do more, to protect our children, across all Member States, and across the world, against paedophilia.
The internet can be the source of very many good things - connections, creativity and business possibilities – but we must not ignore its negative sides.
We must work to combat the growing rise of paedophilia online and the shady networks that hide behind advanced levels of encryption.
We must not let them hide in the ‘shadowy web’ and prey on our innocents. More and better technological capabilities need to be employed by agencies and authorities to ensure that child pornography cannot be created and distributed in this secretive and so-called anonymous world.
More must be done to enforce the 2011 Directive to combat the sexual abuse and exploitation of children and to make sure that Member States and Europol are doing more to tackle and eradicate these horrific crimes, with more effective investigations and prosecutions.
