"There are some positives in this Progress Report for Serbia, particularly calls for enhancing human rights, children's rights, fundamental freedoms, respect for cultural and linguistic diversity, justice and reconciliation.
These recommendations are all important issues that need to be dealt with in a post conflict society such as Serbia.
In Ireland's experience the Good Friday Agreement commits signatories to delivering an Irish Language Act and a Bill of Rights for the north and Charter of Human Rights for All-Ireland. We are still fighting for the implementation of these.
So I welcome such recommendations.
However I am concerned by calls for "structural economic reforms" and "fiscal consolidation". In Ireland's experience these so-called reforms, at the behest of the EU, have caused much hardship particularly to the most vulnerable.
On this basis I abstained."@en1
