"Labour MEPs voted against the guidelines for the 2016 budget as there was a lack of any real reference to making cuts to ineffective areas of spending, like the CAP direct subsidy for agriculture. We need to see more productive, effective and forward-thinking investment - investment in industries that will secure growth and jobs, in research, and in our young people. We are working with colleagues here in the European Parliament to drive the European economy forwards and to work towards an EU budget that delivers more positive impacts in the West Midlands. We do need to see less effective areas of spending within the EU budget redirected to projects that deliver real economic and social benefits."@en1
