"Madam President, the EU has been trying unsuccessfully to fight fraud for many years. I think it is 20 years in a row since the auditors were able to sign off the EU’s accounts. In the commercial world the fraud squad would have been called in long ago and the organisation would have been closed down.
The exact amount of fraud is unknown but must run into the billions. The two biggest areas of the budget open to fraud are the Cohesion Fund and the Common Agricultural Policy. The countries with the highest number of irregularities are Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Denmark and Greece. There are few surprises there. If we make vast amounts of money available to countries that are institutionally corrupt, then naturally their criminals will take full advantage of it.
My constituency in London will be appalled that their taxes are subject to such a gigantic level of fraud. Fortunately they can do something about it by voting to leave the EU by voting UKIP on 7 May 2015."@en1
