"I voted against this report as this report failed to address with any sincerity the impact that austerity policies have had on both Ireland and indeed across the EU. This report was concerned with the year 2013. The year 2013 was the year during which the Irish Government held the Presidency of the EU. It was also the year in which the Central Statistics Office recorded 250 people a day leaving Irish shores. This widespread emigration was as a direct result of the austerity policies championed by the ECB.
Despite the fact that Ireland makes up 0.9 per cent of the European population and 1.2 per cent of the EUʼs GDP, the Irish people have paid over 42 per cent of the European banking crisis. Every individual in Ireland will pay EUR 9 000 each. The average that citizens across the EU will pay is EUR 192 per capita. The ECB still continues to fail to acknowledge the role that it played in bailing out the Irish banks. It is simply not good enough to continue to abdicate responsibility. The Irish people need and deserve answers and so do other citizens across the EU."@en1
