"I voted in favour of this resolution alongside my European Parliament Labour Party colleagues because this report highlights areas where urgent action is needed if we are to achieve targets on gender equality, particularly in the area of womenʼs employment, women in entrepreneurship, and sexual and reproductive rights. Our economic recovery has been one of low wage, temporary and insecure work and this has hit women disproportionately hard. Persistent gender gaps in pay and pensions demonstrate there is still a very long way to go. Womenʼs rights to control their own bodies are a key element of achieving gender equality along with quotas for women on boards and increased visibility in public life, and have been part of the political struggle here. What was at stake was not just womenʼs economic empowerment, and our investment in Europeʼs future, but also a Europe of social justice."@en1
