"Persisting gender inequalities are and will remain a great concern for many years to come. For example, we almost certainly will not be able to achieve equal pay any time before 2034 and womenʼs employment rate will not be comparable to menʼs until 2038. However, we have taken small steps to reduce this gender inequality gap. We did the right thing by pushing for the maternity leave directive to be unblocked by the EU Council of Ministers and to push for better paid paternity leave rights across the EU. We also want to see more financial support given by governments to make childcare systems more affordable, as it will give mothers increased opportunities to return to work. It is also important that, in every Member State, women have control over their sexual and reproductive health rights."@en1
