"I believe that protecting consumers from unfair bank fees is a key objective and a battle worth fighting. Thus, I was happy to vote yes on the report concerning payments known as multilateral interchange fees (MIFs), which are charges during transactions between merchants and the buyer’s banks. The report sets a maximum fee level for transactions with payment cards that are used by consumers at 0.2 % for debit cards and 0.3 % for credit card transactions. The report allows Member States to define transaction cap fees within a certain range for domestic transactions. It also includes transparency measures for retailers, which will allow consumers to make more informed decisions about possible charges. The differences between national MIFs have distorted the single market, so I have supported the objectives of this report."@en1
