lpv:spoken text	"Labour MEPs today voted in favour of EU rules on large vehicles to encourage greener and safer buses, trucks and lorries. This proposal amends General Circulation Directive 96/53/EC which sets maximum weights and dimensions for vehicles circulating in the EU. It will authorise longer lorries which is said to be justified on environmental grounds. Extra length on lorries would allow more aerodynamically designed cabs and rear flaps. It must be stressed that the new legislation will not prevent more extensive road—safety measures on safer lorries at local/regional level. Labour MEPs will continue to call for further action at EU level to improve vehicle safety and environmental standards."@en1
