"Today I voted in favour of the mobilisation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) for application EGF/2013/009.
Zachem Poland has been granted EGF aid to support the reintegration in the labour market of workers made redundant from Zaklady Chemiczne Zachem and two suppliers, linked to the discontinuation of production and the corporate reorganisation of Zachem, located in Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province. The 615 redundancies are linked to a decline in the European Unionʼs market share of the chemical industry.
The Polish authorities argue that the impact of globalisation has been worsened by the effect of the financial crisis. Zachem was the biggest employer in the region and that in the given reference period, the workers dismissed directly or indirectly from Zachem amounted to 60 % of all newly registered unemployed persons in the district employment office in Bydgoszcz.
The EUR 115 205 of EGF aid will pay for personalised services to support the reintegration of the affected workers into employment.
The UK has never made an application under this fund. UK workers receive none of this support therefore."@en1
