"Mr President, it has been really good for me, as someone who respects and enjoys national sovereignties and all the diverse, different countries that are represented here, to see people speaking often on behalf of their own countries and highlighting the differences between the different structures and frameworks in those countries. It brings home to someone like me, with my own view about national sovereignty, that really, surely, it is always better for the local authorities, free of guidelines from here, always to make the decisions about what is best for their infrastructure, best for their economy and best for their people. It is so nice to see some people here delighted that they have negotiated a little bit of freedom – ‘Oh, we are not going to have this imposed, have we not done well?’ Well, the truth is – and this is something the British Conservatives need to understand – that if we were not here in the first place, we would not have to worry about that. But I wish you all in your own countries great success with this, and let us hope that all our economies boom."@en1
