"Mr President, I would like to thank Marc Tarabella for his report. In gender equality the widest gaps tend to be in the areas of time and power. We see this every day; women are still under-represented in politics. While 36.9% of MEPs are women, every day we see male-dominated committees and meetings.
In the UK, the Labour Party has pledged that half of the cabinet will be women. Meanwhile, the Tory-Liberal Democrat front bench is a sea of suits and ties, vastly dominated by men. It is Labour leading the way in gender equality and political parity in the UK. UKIP has announced that it intends to abolish the position of Minister for Women and Equalities and halve maternity pay. We need to strive for gender equality right across Europe, to tackle the many problems faced by women on equal pay and pensions, under-representation of women in decision-making positions, violence and in—work poverty. I urge you to support – for all women and girls and their aspirations – Marc Tarabella’s report."@en1
