"I voted in favour of the establishment of a special committee to investigate extensive allegations of tax fraud and tax evasion by a number of multinational corporations across the European Union and the alleged role of key EU political figures in relation to same. The investigation of such serious practices is unequivocally one of the most critical inquiries of our time. In this regard, I am dissatisfied that the European Parliament did not see fit to proceed with the proposed inquiry committee. An inquiry committee would have possessed the necessary legal powers to ensure that an objective, equitable and unprejudiced decision was reached. It is yet to be explored in full detail as to whether the Special Committee will have the requisite powers to investigate the legal loopholes which it has been maintained were deployed on a mass scale by multinationals across the European Union and aided by senior EU political figures. It was with these reservations in mind, that I provided support to the creation of the Special Committee and both my party and my group will be monitoring this matter very closely."@en1
