"Mr President, it is with deep concern that we note the developments in Yemen, and with the UK and US and other Western nations withdrawing their missions from Yemen, I think the situation is set to get worse.
This week we also heard from a former CIA director that Al-Qaeda in the Arab Peninsula is even bigger than IS, and AQAP is making fast progress on a technological front. Therefore, when the EU Heads of State or Government discuss counter-terrorism tomorrow they need to include measures that increase coordination of intelligence amongst us, with respect to Yemeni Al-Qaeda, and have a plan for concrete action to support UN-sponsored national dialogue and support building a stronger state.
It is also important that we do not just get a dialogue with a single interlocutor at the cost of inclusiveness. Failure to have all the groups on board is why we are where we are in Yemen today. I ask why the talks that began on Monday are already faltering; this indicates the gravity of the task ahead of us."@en1
