However, even though the new legal basis for this Directive does not allow the UK to opt-out, I was able to support this vote for two main reasons. Firstly, the UK DVLA already supplies this information to other Member States on request and therefore it will not materially change current practice. Secondly, given the number of non-British vehicles using UK roads currently, it would seem appropriate for the UK authorities to be able to access information on EU drivers who breach UK road safety rules or commit traffic offences whilst in the UK."@en1
