"Two years ago we were all very enthusiastic about the Arab Spring and excited about the birth of a new democracy, but I am afraid we are slipping back into an Islamist Winter. The transition is difficult and will take a long time in Egypt, therefore you need patience, determination and solidarity. In order to establish a good partnership between Egypt, the EPP Group and the European Union, we must share some basic values. The EU should not only give money for unclear purposes. We need to be attentive to what is going on in Egypt. The status of Christians is of particular interest; however, apart from that, the EU is looking to ensure the respect of human dignity for everybody, and the respect of minorities, which is based on this principle as well. We should be talking about a ‘Civilisational Dialogue’"@en1
