"Mr President, I voted in favour of this resolution, but I would like to use the opportunity of my explanation of vote to raise once again the issue of the continued detention of Ibrahim Halawa. Last July I raised this issue in the Parliament here in Strasbourg. and what we find in that period of time is that his trial has once again been postponed. It has now been postponed for the fourth time. He has been declared a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International, and the Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Charlie Flanagan, has expressed his deep concern about his detention. Ibrahim Halawa is an Irish citizen. His detention, I believe, is a violation of the EU-Egypt Association Agreement and is a clear breach of his human rights. Furthermore, I believe Ibrahim should not be tried as part of a group trial which involves a large number of defendants. He is entitled to be tried as an individual."@en1
