"Mr President, it is right and proper that members of this Parliament do not shirk their responsibility to highlight the abuses of fundamental freedoms currently witnessed in Eastern Ukraine and Crimea. I am aware of several charitable and faith-based organisations from my own constituency, Northern Ireland, which have been working with people in communities ravaged by the current violence and unrest instigated by the Russian intervention. We cannot ignore the reports of intimidation and the wave of disappearances that has taken place in these communities. In many cases, this has impacted religious minorities, including Christians. The EU must reiterate full commitment to the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine's borders. But, more importantly, it must ensure that help and support filters through, both in terms of assisting those worst affected through aid work and re-housing, and through allowing EU citizens who are working and living in conflict areas to access all necessary support to return home safely."@en1
