The actions of Russia have been unacceptable, and it is right that the international community should take appropriate and proportionate actions such as sanctions (although I do not believe that this should be at EU level – rather a matter for individual nations and/or the UN to determine). I am concerned that European Union action may prove to be undue provocation due to the potential accession of the Ukraine to the EU. I note that an amendment which would have sought to rescind the Association Agreement failed. Consequently, I felt that I had no choice but to abstain on the motion for a resolution as a whole."@en1
