"This Association Agreement between the EU and Georgia refers to the Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Georgia as one of the most ambitious FTAs that the EU has negotiated with a third country. It talks about a Deep and Comprehensive FTA, modernising the country's economy – which concerns privatisation and liberalisation – and commends Georgia for undertaking deep and difficult economic reforms. In the Irish experience these ‘reforms’ tend to make the rich richer and the vast majority of the people poorer. Some of the references to Russia are not helpful, given the ongoing tensions in the region. Integration into NATO is not likely to ease tensions. For these reasons I voted against this motion."@en1
