lpv:spoken text	"Mr President, the ECR Group calls for the Sudanese authorities to release Dr Amin Mekki Medani immediately. His arrest was not only arbitrary but his detention is considered a reprisal in order to sanction and stop his legitimate human rights activities. Following his arrest shortly after he returned from Addis, serious concerns were raised for his safety. He is 76 years old, suffers from high blood pressure and diabetes and has been denied the right to take his medication by the security services. The Sudanese authorities, led by the indicted war criminal President Omar al-Bashir, have acted deplorably in this case. Furthermore, in addition for calling for Dr Medani’s immediate release, my Group urges the authorities to put an end to all acts of harassment and intimidation against human rights defenders in general and, lastly, to comply with the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders and all regional and international human rights instruments ratified by Sudan."@en1
