I do not believe that recognition at this time would benefit the peace process and would in fact hinder the negotitations for a genuine two-state solution. I am committed to the eventual recognition of a Palestinian state at a time more helpful to the peace process, as a two-state solution brought through negotiated agreement as the only way for Palestinian aspirations of statehood to be met on the ground. Additionally, this is a matter for national parliaments and not the European Parliament. The principle of subsidiarity should be applied to the recognition of new states as the EU has no competency in this area."@en1
