Only nations can do this, as the EU Commission made clear in writing to my colleague James Carver when he asked them about recognising Somalialand. If the EU parliament accepts the rule of law, and abides by it and its own rules, then it would not even be allowing the vote in the first place. I support the two state solution, and recognising Palestine, while not requiring Hamas to lay down its arms or the recognition of the right for Israel to exist is a mistake. I cannot allow the EU to act as a nation state, when it is not, and will not support this. The UK as a sovereign nation should recognise Palestine as and when it sees fit."@en1
