"I voted against the motion for Resolution on the "Commission delegated regulation of 20 October 2014 establishing a discard plan in the Baltic Sea".
A landing obligation means that all fish (up to a certain size, (juveniles can be released again) that are caught, need to be landed and counted against the fishermen's quota. The reason for having this is to conserve the fish stock that is left in this highly overfished sea and try to keep the cod species alive in the Baltic.
This resolution objecting the entry into force of the landing obligation on 1 January 2015 for the fisheries in the Baltic Sea, would be environmentally unsustainable and would put the industry in this region into jeopardy."@en1
