"I voted in favour of the motion for resolution on "Draft Council Directive .../.../EU laying down calculation methods and reporting requirements pursuant to Directive 98/70/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council relating to the quality of petrol and diesel fuels".
If passed this motion could make it easier for fuel products from tar sands and shale (obtained from fracking) to enter the EU market.
Unconventional sources of fuel like tar sands, oil shale and coal-to-liquid have a higher GHG lifecycle intensity. This means that in order to make petrol or diesel from these kind of feedstocks, it will costs more energy and therefore emit more greenhouse gases."@en1
