"Today, alongside my Labour Party colleagues in Europe, I voted against the 2015 EU Budget in light of a lack of reform.
Although Labour MEPs have worked hard with our European colleagues to see increases in the Research and Development provision (an area that Britain is the biggest beneficiary of and has gone towards projects such as the development of Graphene in my region) and I welcome the fact that the EU will do more to meet its international responsibilities for humanitarian aid and development, I cannot support and vote for a budget that sees so much waste of tax payers money on unreformed areas like the Common Agricultural Policy and Strasbourg sessions.
We must see a move towards a budget that brings added value for tax payers and sees investment in sustainable growth that creates jobs and secures the UK’s future as a major global player."@en1
