"Mr President, like many colleagues I was shocked last week to hear that the Commission was proposing to scrap two new environmental laws on clean air and recycling targets which sent out a very negative message to those who expect the EU to take the lead in environmental action.
I know from my own experience in Wales that these are crucial public health issues and create thousands of green jobs, so we will take as a promise that you will bring forward more ambitious proposals and we will wait for those with interest. I was encouraged, however, to see that the Swansea Tidal Lagoon was included in the indicative project list for investment. It will not only be a source of renewable power for generations to come, but also a catalyst for investment in jobs: world leading technology being developed with the real involvement and the support of the local community. That is the kind of sustainable job-creating investment we really need to see in the future."@en1
