"The effects of climate change cut across societies, economies and every single ecosystem. It is essential that we strengthen international efforts to mitigate against these effects and next week's Climate Change Conference in Lima is an important part of those efforts. The EU has taken significant steps to reduce carbon emissions but more needs to be done. My own country, Scotland, has set a target to use renewables to generate the equivalent of 100 per cent of our gross annual electricity consumption by 2020. Scotland is a relatively small country but efforts such as this are essential if we are to tackle climate change."@en1
