"Mr President, I am impressed by the content of this particular report and yet I find myself struggling actually to accept all its parts. There are two parts in particular which I think run counter to what the ethos of the report itself was for, namely those which touch upon a minimum wage and those which touch upon a financial transaction tax. These are things which we do not have here in our own continent; we have been careful and cautious as we have discussed them, recognising sovereignty and Member Statesʼ rights, and yet for reasons that remain unclear we have felt the need, in almost a neo-colonialist approach, to include these particular provisions within this important piece of work. For that reason, I think it is troubled, and those parts in particular are the worst reflection of what we could be doing in this particular chamber."@en1
