"Mr President, I voted in favour of the Stier report on the EU and the global development framework after 2015 first and foremost because it stands up for the poorest and the most vulnerable in our society. The report’s increased focus on sexual and reproductive health, tackling inequality and bringing an end to corruption and tax evasion are crucial in gaining my support. It is simply awful that companies are withholding a hundred billion from the poorest countries through tax dodging each year – money which they so desperately need to develop education, health care and infrastructure. We now need to combine our forces in the run-up to next year’s UN Summit to make sure that the European Year of Development lives up to its name. Only if the EU speaks with a strong and unified voice will we make an actual change and deliver results that far exceed what the EU Member States can do individually."@en1
