lpv:spoken text	"Today I voted in favour of the request for a legal opinion from the European Court of Justice before voting on a planned agreement between the EU and Canada on the exchange of air passenger data (PNR) in the fight against serious crime and terrorism. The purpose of the agreement is to lay down conditions in accordance with which PNR data may be transferred and used, and to stipulate how data will be protected. There is legal uncertainty as to whether the draft agreement is compatible with the provisions of the Treaties (Article 16) and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (Articles 7, 8 and 52(1)) as regards the right of individuals to protection of personal data. I support the decision to obtain an opinion from the European Court of Justice because as legislators, we need to be sure that the decisions we take comply with the Charter of Fundamental Rights and the already existing EU legislation."@en1
