"I voted in favour of this amendment on the Budget 2015, which was tabled to stop Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) payments being made to farmers who are breeding bulls for bullfighting. CAP funding, which is so important for Welsh agriculture, should not be used to support bullfighting. Despite most MEPs voting in favour of this amendment, a qualified majority was not reached, and so it did not pass. As a Member of the European Parliament, I have given animal welfare a high priority and will continue to do so. I recently presented a petition to the new European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker, calling for a commissioner with clear responsibility for animal welfare, but it was unfortunately unsuccessful. However, I remain very positive that in the vote on next year's Budget, we will finally put a stop to European taxpayers’ money being used to support the bullfighting industry"@en1
