He restated today his commitment to the ‘Community method’ rather than an inter-governmental approach. There is no commitment to fundamental reform, to change, in the way that I and our citizens clearly demand. I cannot therefore support this Commission or what it stands for. However, I am optimistic that Lord Hill, the nominee of the United Kingdom, will prove his worth. On this basis, and in keeping with my Group whip, I abstained."@en1
