"I voted against this resolution as, while the basis of it was reasonable, it added nothing of real strength to the resolution of a few weeks ago. I supported many of the amendments tabled by GUE, as I feel the EU must be clear in its condemnation of the continued building of settlements in Palestinian territory, the recent ‘land grab’ after the tragic deaths of four youths and the ongoing ‘siege’ of Gaza. When I visited the area some years ago, I was told Israel can choose to create a real economy or a tunnel economy – they chose the latter, which has given control of the territory to the very people Israel wishes to remove. Yes, the rocket attacks into Israel must stop: I could not vote for the GUE resolution although I agreed with much of the text because it reflected only part of what is happening. But I feel that the EP has to recognise that, until there are real consequences for the Israeli Government’s ongoing creation of ‘facts on the ground’, nothing very much will change."@en1
