"Mr President, in my one minute I just wish to deal with the inclusion of ISDS in the proposed trade deal. Commissioner, my bottom line question is this: why is it necessary in countries that have highly developed and well-understood legal systems to include extra mechanisms for resolving disputes? But, as you know, I am not the only one who has this concern. Over 150 000 citizens responded to your consultation because they, like me, are concerned among other things about the fact that an arbitration panel, which will make final decisions, will not be subject to the ECJ, for example. Jean-Claude Juncker said – and I quote – that he would not accept that the jurisdiction of courts in EU Member States is limited by special regimes for investor disputes. Finally, in 2011 the Parliament warned you in a resolution that a state-to-state dispute settlement mechanism and the use of local judicial remedies are the most appropriate tools to address investment disputes. Commissioner, the trade deal has many positives. Do not be responsible for losing it. Before it is initialled, delete ISDS."@en1
