"Mr President, this amendment was proposed by the ECR Group and supported by the British Conservative Party. It accepted the principle that the EU should have free movement of workers but it supported only qualified free movement. This shows how half-hearted the British Conservative Party is. This is qualified euroscepticism.
Mass open-door immigration has resulted in lower wage and employment levels in the UK and throughout Europe. We abstained because we believe that nation states should have exclusive control of their borders. There should not be qualified free movement of workers; there should be controlled migration, open to the whole world, using a points-based system and managed by the nation states, not the EU."@en1
