"A Uachtaráin, tá áthas orm go bhfuil seans agam labhairt ar an ábhar truamhéalach seo, go háirithe mar a bhaineann sé le mo thír féin, Éire, agus go háirithe í gcás Ibrahim Halawa. Ibrahim Halawa was born in Ireland 18 years ago. Last summer, he travelled to Egypt with his three sisters for a holiday, and they got caught up in the mass demonstrations following the ousting of President Morsi. They were arrested and thrown into prison, like many others, and were kept in inhumane conditions. Ibrahim’s three sisters were released after three months and are now back in Dublin but he has been detained ever since without charge, and is still being kept in inhumane conditions. There was supposed to be a mass trial yesterday but it was postponed. I call on the High Representative and the European External Action Service in Egypt, as a matter of urgency, to do everything they can to get this young man released so that he can go back to Dublin, pursue his studies, as he wishes to do, and become an engineer. He is no threat to anybody. I call for urgent action."@en1
