"The EU Trade Defence Instrument rules have remained largely unchanged for more than 15 years since the 1995 Uruguay Round of multilateral trade negotiations. An amendment was made to the system in 2004 to reflect changes to the decision-making process in the Council (simple majority to reject a Commission proposal instead of simple majority in favour). The Parliament cast a partial vote on the amendments adopted in committee on 5 February 2014 which were all adopted, but no trialogue meeting took place as Member States in Council remain widely divided, especially on the removal of the lesser-duty rule. In light of the absence of consensus amongst Member States, I voted against the report, and hope further legislative work on this file may be continued in the next Parliament legislature."@en1
