"The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) enables the EU and its Member States to work with 151 countries to protect endangered species of plants and animals by restricting and monitoring international trade in them to ensure that trade is carried out in a sustainable way. Trade in endangered species is regulated by a system of permitting. CITES is implemented in the EU by Council Regulation (EC) No[nbsp ]338/97. This Regulation has been amended a number of times since adoption, through Commission Regulations. In April 2012 the Commission initiated codification of the Regulation, including allowing for further changes regarding delegated and implementing acts (following the adoption of the Lisbon Treaty). This has been satisfactorily transformed into a recast. Therefore I voted in favour."@en1
