"The report restores legal certainty to a sector that has been suffering from uncertainty and trade restrictions since the ECJ ruling of 2011. The key issue is the definition of pollen, and I absolutely stand by the position that pollen is a natural constituent of honey and not an ingredient. Pollen enters honey as a result of bees' activity and is not deliberately added by the beekeeper. This is consistent with international trade standards set for honey, which define honey as non-compound product with no ingredients. EU law should not be based on a false premise, and should not unilaterally punish beekeepers by undermining the reputation of their product. The adoption of this report by my Conservative colleague Julie Girling, will restore legal certainty to the honey sector so that beekeepers and honey producers can return to their usual business as it was before the court ruling. For these reasons, I voted in favour and was pleased to be able to support Welsh and European beekeepers."@en1
