"This proposed legislation updates the existing measures for the promotion of agricultural products, both on the internal market and in third countries and is complementary legislation to the other CAP dossiers. The original Commission proposal included a significant increase in funding, up to EUR[nbsp ]200 million per year, primarily to increase the promotion of quality European food products. This funding will come from existing Pillar[nbsp ]1 CAP funding. The Commission also wanted to focus primarily on external markets and remove the option for national government co-financing of projects, leaving the co-financing element to be funded by the organisations which make the applications for promotion funding. For the UK, changes have undermined the nature of the programme and have undermined its objectives to promote EU agricultural products on third-country markets. The inclusion of the crisis fund and the significant increase in internal promotion possibilities are likely to mean that very little of the budget is left for external promotion, which was the original aim of this proposal and the area where the most added value can be gained from this legislation. It was therefore my conclusion that I could not support the report, and I voted against."@en1
