"I find it appalling that we are today again discussing the expansion and extension of the size and structure of the European Court of Justice. For too long already, this unaccountable Court has defied national sovereignty and the right of Member States to operate their criminal justice systems free of intrusion. My own constituency, Northern Ireland, is a region of the United Kingdom. And across the UK, people only have to look at the number of local judgments and verdicts that have been usurped by European Courts in a vast range of policy areas. This report cites the increase in cases being processed by the European Court of Justice. It calls for more judges and more specialist courts to consolidate the role it plays in uprooting the sovereignty of national judicial systems. This is completely unacceptable. It is only common sense for people to want laws to be made locally. It is also common sense to want crimes that are committed locally to be punished locally. Subsequently, this move toward further integration of legal powers must be opposed."@en1
