"I voted for this report because it is important that we make sure cab specifications reduce blind spots and make the roads safer to use for others like cyclists and pedestrians. It also clarifies the legal position on ‘mega trucks’ and states that they can only cross borders when the two states agree to the lorries driving on their road networks. Changes to the shape of cabs will also mean that vehicles are more aerodynamic and this will increase efficiency and contribute to a reduction in fuel consumption/costs for users. The accommodation of aerodynamic flaps at the back of trailers will also reduce drag and emissions. We live in a time of substantial congestion and climate change targets; this report works to meet the challenges presented by both. The report also supports an increase in size and weight, meaning more can be transported, bringing greater benefit to the economies of Member States. The liberalisation of cross-border circulation benefits the movement of goods across Member States. All in all, this report brings economic, environmental and safety benefits to drivers, pedestrians and other road users and adheres to changing market trends across the EU."@en1
