After the Northern Rock Bank in the UK sent shock waves throughout the EU, it became clear that action was necessary to secure the deposits of bank customers, particularly small savers. The rapporteur has shown that consideration of national approaches is possible under the banner of EU action. I congratulate Peter Simon and am pleased to have been a part of the crucial debate that matters to men and women across the European Union, who now have a vital guarantee."@en1
